Image
A fallacy is the use of invalid or faulty reasoning, or it can be understood as 'wrong moves' in an argument. A fallacious argument may be deceptive to appear better than it really is. Some fallacies are committed intentionally to manipulate or persuade by deception, while others are committed unintentionally due to carelessness or ignorance. Fallacies can be divided into: Formal fallacies : A formal fallacy can be expressed neatly in a standard system of logic. Informal fallacies : An informal fallacy originates in an error in reasoning other than an improper logical form. Knowing the fallacies is also a mark of a well educated mind and it greatly enriches the quality of philosophical discussions. It will help you develop the vocabulary and skills needed to better evaluate the credibility of marketing messages, activists’ appeals and research sources. It helps to critique arguments and hold rational views especially in making persuasive writing and decision.
